I recently accepted the challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (19,400 feet!) with Fred Hutch’s Climb to Fight Cancer. Please join me as I raise funds for lifesaving research at Fred Hutch.
I started my professional career at Eisai where I was a medicinal chemist and project leader for multiple oncology programs. I remember a motivational speaker, a young man who had survived cancer as a child, who performed an exercise at an offsite to see how many people in the room had been "touched" by cancer personally, through a family member, etc. The end of the exercise was eye-opening to me: only two people of ~200 in the room had not been closely touched by cancer.
Later in my career I transitioned onto the investment side of the biotech industry joining SR One. One of my colleagues and partners (and truly one of the nicest person I've ever worked with) Kent Gossett had been recently diagnosed with KRAS mutant lung cancer (despite the fact that he was never a smoker!). Kent's fight against his form of cancer was inspirational to all of us at SR One demonstrating toughness, resilience, hope, class, and optimism for new treatments. He worked endlessly seeking out and investing in biotech startups up until he ultimately succumbed to his disease.
These are some of the reasons I've been motivated to join this challenge and raise money to help fund the world class R&D that's being done at Fred Hutch. I must admit I'm a bit anxious too about summiting this iconic mountain, but excited to join this exceptional group of motivated biotech execs. Please help me reach my goal!
Thank you!
