Palliative Care, part of our supportive care services, gives individuals living with serious illness the tools and support they need to manage symptoms and enhance their quality of life, regardless of prognosis. People can receive palliative care alongside cancer treatment, and research has shown that early involvement can improve quality of life. While palliative care research has historically been underfunded, we are bringing new attention to a field that will benefit many.
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and UW Medicine’s expert providers and researchers are tackling palliative care research from two angles: improving current symptom management and unraveling the emotional and practical challenges patients and their families face to offer more effective support. Both approaches have a shared goal of enhancing the everyday experiences of those with cancer.
Your support is critical to fueling that effort. In many cases, unrestricted gifts to a program can have the most immediate impact by allowing leadership to deploy funds where they’re needed most.
From investigating symptom management options to creating new tools to support families through difficult conversations about care wishes, our researchers are committed to pursuing the next breakthroughs that will allow more patients to live life to the fullest.
