A Concert to End Pancreatic Cancer

On August 2017 our singer and beloved friend Matt Bencke was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 45. He died a few weeks later, leaving behind his loving wife and two wonderful daughters. We did not give up and decided to join the fight against this terrible disease.

This year, we will be supporting Fred Hutch Cancer Center - one of the leading research centers in the country, known for pioneering bone marrow transplant for leukemia, and for their groundbreaking work on immunotherapy and targeted oncology. I have the honor of serving in their advisory board and chairing the newly formed AI cancer research committee that aims to create the largest AI computational center for Cancer Research in the US. Jeff Leek, Chief Data Officer of Fred Hutch will attend the event to give us a glimpse of the latest advances and the bold mission of working at the leading edge of medicine and technology to find a cure for cancer.

As per the musical entertainment, we will have the honor of having the great Kishi Bashi, stage name of Kaoru Ishibashi, an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Born in Seattle, Washington, Kishi Bashi began his musical journey as a violinist, performing with diverse artists such as Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal.

In 2019, Kishi Bashi released his fourth studio album, "Omoiyari," which delves into the painful history of Japanese-American incarceration during World War II. The album's title, "Omoiyari," is a Japanese word that translates to "empathy" or "compassion." Through this project, Kishi Bashi aimed to shed light on this dark chapter in American history and promote understanding and healing. He also created a documentary film, "Omoiyari: A Songfilm by Kishi Bashi," which further explores this subject matter and includes interviews with survivors and their descendants.

Kishi Bashi has established himself as an innovative and captivating artist in the indie music scene, while also using his platform to raise awareness about important social and historical issues.

You too can make a difference by attending this event or making an online donation to support pancreatic cancer at Fred Hutch.
