Welcome to the fundraising page in memory of Evan Garrett

Evan Garrett passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, in the loving embrace of his parents and brother.

Evan was born in Seattle on December 4, 1993, and lived in Edmonds, WA, until he was 9 years old. Evan moved to Naperville with his family in 2003. He attended Springbrook Elementary School, Gregory Middle School, and Neuqua Valley High School (class of 2012). He graduated from Illinois State University with a B.S. degree in Biology in 2017.

Baseball was Evan’s passion, but he loved all sports. He loved the Cubs but never missed an opportunity to cheer on all professional sports teams from Seattle. He had an insatiable curiosity and desire to learn. He loved reading historical fiction books and mystery novels.

As a three-time cancer survivor, Evan persevered through many health problems in his short life. His motivation for living such a rich life was based in his love of family and his incredibly supportive friends in Seattle and Naperville. He was a model of love, patience and compassion and touched many lives across the U.S. and beyond. May he now rest in peace!

Evan is survived by his parents, Steve and Rita Garrett of Naperville, IL, and his older brother, Kyle Garrett, also of Naperville. Evan is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins across the U.S.

Please consider making a donation to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in memory of Evan Garrett. By supporting groundbreaking cancer research, we can turn our collective love into better outcomes for people in our families, communities, and around the world.

We support Fred Hutch because their scientists, clinicians, and staff are relentless in their work to prevent, detect, and treat cancer and related diseases. Fred Hutch is driven by the urgency of their patients, the hope of their community, and their passion for discovery to pursue scientific breakthroughs and a healthier life for every person. They truly will not stop until they have better treatments, and cures, for all who need them.

If we are going to end the pain and suffering caused by cancer, we need to put our resources behind the research it takes to get there. Your generous gift helps Fred Hutch improve lives — and pave the way toward a world where no person or family has to fear this disease.

Thank you! We know Evan would have been honored and inspired by your commitment.
