Brain Freeze for Brain Cancer 2024

Great news! This soon-to-be frozen person (ME!) is plunging into Lake Washington and taking action to support world-changing research - specifically Brain Cancer Research. Now, I need you!

We really hate brain cancer.

In late July 2021, Kimberly King was diagnosed with brain cancer. She went from working that morning on her jobsite to the hospital only to have the doctors find a oligodendroglioma (tumor, cancerous) about the size of a potato in her front of her brain. She had emergency surgery the next day after being admitted to the hospital, followed by treatment.

May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month and to raise awareness, Kim & the Gertrude Eviction Squad (as she affectionately calls her care team) puts on the “Brain Freeze for Brain Cancer” polar plunge style event to raise, not only awareness, but also funds for brain tumor research. This year is the second year that this fundraiser will benefit the Fred Hutch Brain Tumor Research Fund. All proceeds will be donated to them in their mission to find ways to treat and cure brain cancers of all kinds.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is a place where researchers, clinicians, and other experts unite innovative research and compassionate care to prevent and eliminate cancer and infectious disease.

Will you support me with a donation?

I care about this cause because brain cancer affects too many people, and because a healthier world is possible. Research is how we’ll get there, and you and I can help!

I trust and support Fred Hutch because, for nearly 50 years, they’ve been advancing prevention, treatment, care, and cures for cancer and other diseases. Their early discoveries led to bone marrow transplantation — one of the first immunotherapies and a treatment that can cure some cancers. Today, they are unlocking how cancers start and spread, harnessing the immune system to fight disease, improving clinical care, and giving more people and their families time together.

I’m ready for a world where nobody has to fear cancer or infectious diseases — and I know you are, too. Please donate today. Every contribution matters, and your support means so much to me. Thank you!
