Organ transplant recipients are at two to four times the risk of developing cancer. But the current optimal therapies for organ transplant and cancer work against each other: immunotherapies for cancer activate the immune system while immunosuppressants for organ transplant suppress the immune system. Providers do their best, but in the typical clinical settings, coordinating care is nearly impossible. For people with cancer and organ transplants, this can lead to transplant rejection, and even death.
The Center for Innovations in Cancer & Transplant (CICT) provides outstanding multidisciplinary clinical care for pre- and post-transplant patients with cancer at our Cancer and Organ Transplant Clinic. CICT also leads exceptional patient-focused research of cancer before and after organ transplant through a robust bioregistry and collaborative research network.
