Towards diversity in Biotech!
Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro was more than a physical challenge, it solidified bonds that will last a lifetime. Bonds that pushed my personal and professional discourse beyond the future of cancer research and industry partnerships, to the heart of what makes cures possible: the researchers themselves.
Lifesaving research demands not only intelligence, curiosity and creativity, but also requires researchers who reflect the communities that they serve. To that end, I am embarking on a new journey to bring more equity and inclusion to science, and I’m asking you to join me by supporting the Climb to Fight Cancer Fellowship.
The Climb to Fight Cancer Fellowship provides financial support for self-identified underrepresented postdoctoral researchers with a goal of ensuring retention and fostering a diverse community of scientists for generations to come.
The fellow, representing the Hutch, will join the 2022 Climb to Fight Cancer team. For the fellow, conquering a mountain as part of the Climb team will provide extraordinary access to C-suite executives from some of the world’s leading biotech companies; entrepreneurial founders and CEOs of innovative biotech start-ups; and VCs and private investors of biotechnology. It will also provide a unique opportunity to create deep and lasting relationships with these influential biotech leaders, build their network, and become more familiar with this exciting and quickly evolving industry.
A lot of things have changed since I summited the mountain, but one thing remains the same - the need for greater diversity and inclusion within biotech. Please join me in my efforts to raise $13,500 by February 15, 2021.
*Note: while we hope to reach the fundraising minimum required to fund the fellowship by 2/15/21, if the minimum is not secured, every gift will directly support the strategic vision of Fred Hutch’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Please give today.
