To all of our friends and family:
We are once again participating in the 2020 Defeat Multiple Myeloma 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk on Sunday, June 28 at Magnuson Park. Team JCO has continued to grow each year, and it is all because of the support you have shown for our family and myself. It is one of the best days of the year for me when I see everyone out there.
I was diagnosed six years ago on February 9th, a date that resonates with me every year. At that time, the survival rate beyond five years was a little over 50% for this disease. It was a pretty depressing prognosis at the time, but not one I was willing to consider. Here we are six years later, and my cancer remains under control. Life works in strange ways.
Our family is hoping you will come out again and join our cause whether it be walking, running and/or donating to Team JCO. 100% of all funds raised will go directly to advancing multiple myeloma cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
What is Multiple Myeloma?
Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells found in bone marrow. Normal plasma cells help the immune system fight disease, but when plasma cells become cancerous they grow out of control and can produce a tumor called a plasmacytoma. If someone has more than one plasmacytoma, they have multiple myeloma.
Why support this event? What is our mission?
Defeat Multiple Myeloma’s mission is to raise awareness of multiple myeloma while supporting research that seeks to discover new treatments, improve the quality of life for myeloma patients, and ultimately find a cure for this devastating form of cancer. Funds from the 2020 Defeat Multiple Myeloma event will continue to support immunotherapy research and clinical trials at Fred Hutch which are using CAR-T cells and have shown very promising early results for patients.
Thank you everyone!
Jeff, Andrea, Shaina, Jason, and Jace
