I recently accepted the challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with Fred Hutch’s Climb to Fight Cancer. Please join me as I raise funds for lifesaving research at Fred Hutch.
The worst moment of my life was when I was told my daughter had Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, a rare form of cancer, at just 4 years old. On her surgery date, what was supposed to be a 2 inch incision stretched from ear to ear, an egg-sized tumor was removed from her forehead, and 4 screws were used to attach a bone plate to cover the 3 inch diameter defect in her skull. Thankfully, she made a full recovery and the experience has positively shaped the course of her life. She is now finishing her final year of the NYU Honors Nursing Program to become a pediatric oncology nurse. She is a national ambassador for the Histiocytosis Association, does a bit of public speaking to share her story, and recently organized a Histio Blue Ribbon Run to spread awareness and raise funds for research. I am incredibly proud of her resilience and contributions to fight cancer, and now it is my turn to make a difference!
I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, with Fred Hutch's Climb to Fight Cancer team. Each climber is committed to raising a minimum of $50,000. The funds I raise will go to a pair of researchers at Fred Hutch whose work is directed towards Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.
I am honored to be a part of this tremendous effort! Please wish me luck as we climb to almost 19,500 feet in altitude, and please consider helping me reach my goal! Thank you so much for your support!
